WI elect to field against SArica

Sunday, June 14, 2009
LONDON: West Indies captain Chris Gayle won the toss and elected to field against South Africa in their ICC World Twenty20 Group E Super Eights match at the Oval here on Saturday.

South Africa, unbeaten at the tournament so far, were unchanged from the side that defeated England by seven wickets at Trent Bridge on Thursday while the West Indies retained the same side that beat defending champions India, also by seven wickets, at Lord's on Friday.

It's a clear day at The Oval. David Lloyd feels the surface will have good pace and bounce. Chris Gayle has won the toss and will field. He says: "Even though the pitch is good, I don't see why we can't chase. It would have been nice to get some time between games, but hopefully we can put up a good fight against South Africa.

"Hopefully I can hold on to a few catches wearing these sunglasses [the bright yellow ones]."

Graeme Smith would have liked to chase too, but he is not too upset with the toss. South Africa have made no changes to the team that thrashed England. Nor have West Indies tinkered with the winning combination.
